Renewed Pitches for RTR and DDC
Restore the Republic and Downsize DC:
The names say it all, send ducats, ring the bell
by Gary Franchi (RTR), Jim Babka (DDC)
I think most leaders of organizations in our cause realize that the enemies of liberty have
effectively deprived the human resistance of any substantial capital resources... with a couple of exceptions for particular issues. [An engine of wealth generation, such as the agricultural hemp industry, is thus somewhat urgent for the humans.] In this war, we must be honest about our strengths and weaknesses. Right now capital funding is a weakness. Please just give what you can to the organizations who work the best.
We have to do more with less.
What follows are two appeals—a couple of my favorites to whom I send $5/mo (that I don't truthfully have)—from Restore the Republic and Downsize DC, respectively.
Restore the Republic
Alert: A Death in the Family
Brian,
I regret to inform you that we must report a very sad fact.
Unless someone steps up to assist in funding or a substantial
moneybomb is thrown on our behalf, RTR and all the work we have
done will cease to exist... and a member of the Freedom Movement
will die.
And what a shame because we are currently experiencing massive
positive growth because of the new website and have developed
cutting edge media projects that no one in our movement is doing
right now... media projects that if funded will further propel our
message, and energize the movement like never before.
Our new website is exploding in popularity and will soon serve to
become the true center of the Freedom Movement as Aaron Russo
wanted... but we are growing faster that we can keep up... if we
don't keep adding servers to run our website we will lose momentum
and fade away. Server fees in the desired configuration will cost
us $750 per month alone. Rent, electricity, phones, staffing,
transportation, upkeep, utilities and more are already running at
$8188 per month... if we add a the new "Late Stream LIVE" show to
the line up as members have requested our monthly operating costs
will be $13188.
We've attempted to supplement that by allowing sponsors to advertise
on the "Reality Report" or on key places on our website... but they
come and go.
All profits I get from DVD sales and Freedom Mint sales just go
back to pay the bills to keep this going so members have a place to
work together to restore the republic and we can keep putting the
message out in such a way that America will listen... meanwhile we
can hardly keep food on the table, put gas in our gas tanks,
put money away for a rainy day, or raise a family.
Meanwhile we see other organizations raise hundreds of thousands of
dollars to maintain their existence as we truly suffer extinction.
We have close to 50,000 email subscribers and nearly 25,000 members
on our website... and only about 20 people contribute regularly...
this is probably the saddest fact.
While we risk everything we have to support our movement only to
end up on Patriot Hit lists and the constant threat of having our
doors kicked in we can't even get the bulk our membership to rise
up to help...
So, the choice is now yours.
Do we move forward into the next presidential cycle with our new
media shows, our new website, our new films, and new initiatives? Do you let this effort and all the work we have done thus far be
snuffed out?

Downsize DC
My understanding is Downsize DC was on the ropes, and I received an appeal that it would suspend operations on 9/1/10. Two days later, I received another letter that DDC was resuming operations. I believe they had good general response to their appeal, in addition to a major contributor. This is the letter from Babka reporting on the new DDC:
Quote of the Day: "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom
must undergo the fatigue of supporting it." -- Thomas Paine
(1737-1809) Source: Common Sense, February 14, 1776
Thank you to everyone who made contributions over the past two days.
As a result of your support we've gone from being at our worst cash
position all year, to nearly our best.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Many of you are probably getting ready for your Labor Day weekend.
But we want you to know that we're back to work.
We'd also like to entice you to maybe do just a little "labor" with
us today. Here's the reason...
We have a four month streak going: We've exceeded the number of new
registrations and letters to Congress from the previous month. We'd
like to make it five months in a row by exceeding our August numbers.
But this will be a little difficult because we went two business days
without action-oriented Dispatches, and because we have this holiday
weekend.
So, if you could send a letter to Congress today, you'll give
us a fighting chance at a five month streak.
More Progress!
Your letter could be about any of our campaigns, but we would
recommend doing one on our longest standing issue, and partially
successful campaign: Repeal REAL ID. Yes, we've fought Real ID for
six years now, and it still has yet to be implemented! Resistance has
been strong.
Here's the letter I sent using our Educate the Powerful System.
START LETTER
You may think it's your job to protect me from boogeymen.
You may think that because the 9-11 Commission recommended we have a
nationalized ID card, that we've just got to have some ID system to
fill the bill.
You may have even begun to think that dictators who required their
citizens to carry their "papers" from checkpoint to checkpoint, were
on to something.
But instead, I urge you to take your wisdom from Benjamin Franklin
who wrote, "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a
little Temporary Safety, deserve neither liberty nor Safety."
The problem with the Real ID Act is that it doesn't even provide
Temporary Safety. If a terrorist cell must forge identities to carry
out their nefarious mission, then, quite simply, they will.
And if you nationalize ID, you will make the forgery of this "super
ID" the holy grail of the black market—the very profitable focus of
considerable criminal energies.
I wouldn't be surprised if fake "Real
IDs" become incredibly easy to obtain— even common. Heck, you might
even be creating the very black market that will make a terrorist's
job easier!
This is an expensive, pointless, anti-American exercise. We've had
time to grow up since 9-11. Let's act like it, instead of trading
liberty for false security. I urge you to repeal the Real ID Act, and
replace it with NOTHING.
We don't want "Real ID-lite."
If you take the lead on this, you will get a national following from
the considerably-effective, grassroots-base of Americans who've kept
this bill from being implemented, first by the original May, 2008
deadline, and then by the revised December, 2009 deadline.
There's another deadline coming in May 2011, and we're watching. Will you
be a hero for Essential Liberty?
END LETTER
Thanks again for your support. Enjoy your long weekend. And we'll see
you on the other side.
