"It's just me... and millions of others."
An open letter of hope to my huckleberries
by Brian Wright
The idea for this column and its motivation come from a couple of wonderful young women I met recently, Jill and Arleen. We're compatriots in the new food and health revolution... which flows naturally into the the wholistic truth and justice movement.
They each have the same problem I have:
When we question the official story of anything—that comes from the high priests of mainstream television news—our casual friends and family (huckleberries)[1] tend to pat us on the head and treat us as if we're from the planet Neptune.
Sometimes they leave out the pat on the head.
Girls, we're not alone.
As I've already pointed out in my book, The Truth Torpedo, our political system is in the final throes of the Naked Emperor Syndrome. You and I and millions of people[2] who think and see things for themselves have borne testament to the obvious truth that the US central government and the cartel running it have committed a series of flagrant crimes of ever-increasing magnitude for which they no longer have any cover.
We are as the Little Boy in the Hans Christian Andersen parable pointing out that fact.
Coming Out of the Old Paradigm
Guys,
We go back a long way... and a good way.
A lot of the time I was with you in the throes of work and play, say, from the 1970s thru the 1990s—thirty to forty years of my being, well, if not entirely happy with the (Old) Paradigm
at least believing conventional poltics and sociology would improve things. The US of A was my country, not beholden to outside forces, amenable to change from the grass roots. And by golly Anyway, this is extremely tough for me. "I love ya, guys." ?
I know that's an extreme characterization of your nation-state loyalty.
For one thing
So here goes. [I'm writing my open letter to a subset of engineers, who, except for not sharing my deep philosophical or libertarian political premises, have been closer to friends than huckleberries. For a few years in the early 1980s we worked for the same company—I've attended weddings and funerals offspring, socialized with to the point of regular poker nights, golf, annual trips into the 'wilds' of northern Michigan for recreational activities ... alcohol is a factor.
So what I thought was instead of fanning the flames of antagonism, I'd try a more personalized approach, where I leave out the passionate appeals to "climb out of the pod you soulless zombie and face the facts of reality!"
It can also apply to a close friend from high school who went G on me. Or an ex-wife and sister-in-law who feel I've gone off the deep end. Or extended family members who
believe that Jesus wants the government to be prepared for the Rapture. Or
[1]
Huckleberry to me means the guys I hang with—either from golf or drinking buddies or the poker gang or fantasy football. They're generally from one's work milieau, but casual family fits the bill, too. Their values tend to conform to the conventional worldview emanating from the nation-state and its mainstream media, academic, and information machinery. Formal definition of huckleberry from http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-huc1.htm.

A recent study shows that those who question the central government and media story outnumber those who accept the the official story by two to one. Also the doubters tend to be substantially more psychologically healthy than those who deny the truth in favor of an official government or power-hierarchy story.
