Back when he received them, Neil responded to Chance’s heartfelt personal letter and to the After 9/11 Truth book and to the Architects and Engineers’ 9/11 Truth DVD just as Neil normally had all the years they’d known each other: he completely ignored them.

Exactly how nearly ALL Chance’s former Rocket Shop colleagues and contacts reacted: “Chance is a super nice guy, but a nut, a conspiracy junkie, not to mention a radical libertarian who discusses concepts—like the Constitution, civil freedom, ending the Fed, indicting government officials for illegal wars, torture, environmental assaults—that no one needs to deal with in these enlightened days of consensus reality and the sacred mainstream media.”

… “We are fighting for the life and conceptual faculty of individual persons over Alien Collective technology that demotes our consciousnesses to the status of unquestioning ciphers… indeed, we throw off that technology by asserting our humanity as full and natural Independents.

“What’s more, we KICK ALIEN ASS!”

“Strong words,” noted Sean.

“Well stated,” confirmed Katie.

“Thanks for the ear, you two,” acknowledged Chance. “I wanted to cover at least some of the high-spiritual material with you before moving on to the Toto business at hand. But you know what?”

“What?” they said in unison.

The three of them set up the second Monday in December, once more at the Indie Coffee Shop.

Chance noted, “How fitting that the name of this place matches a shortening of the name of our life form dawning: Independent?”

“I like the abbreviation ‘the I’s,’ better,” said Sean.

“The I’s have it… 🙂 ,” chided Katie.

“Good stuff,” remarked Chance. “We’re already going straight to the core of the Big Picture I’ve been striving for, and what I wanted to discuss today…

“… namely, my novel and all my related work presents the central idea of ‘the Independent’ as a new being rising from the ashes of the Collective, declaring its presence and withdrawing it from the old life form.”

“And by doing so, ending it [the old form],” furthered Katie. “Until now our liberty colleagues been more or less beating around the bush… so many grappling with the strings and chains… rather simply than casting them under foot and walking to the light.” Continue reading →

Movie Review: Tucker (1988)

The man and his dream

Preston Tucker: Isn’t that the idea? To build a better mouse trap?
Abe: Not if you’re a mouse!

This movie I kick myself for having missed when it came out 20 years ago, and it was only last week on HBO that I actually got the Tucker experience with both barrels. The two main ideas for me of this all-American Horatio Alger “rags-to-riches” story are:

Innovation in conflict with the stale old dead way of doing things (out of collective ignorance and blind obedience to authority)—call it the Pleasantville barrier—and
Man against the state, particularly the US state and its insidious methods of coercion working in harmony with cartel business interests—call it the Kleptocon barrier.

Without question, the ebullient, imaginative, brilliant, individualistic, hard working Preston Thomas Tucker is more deserving of the quintessential “American Hero” designation than anyone Ayn Rand ever imagined—from the iconoclastic/artistic (humorless) Howard Roark to the ethereal/scientific (humorless) John Galt. Or anyone else ever imagined for that matter. Preston Tucker had it all: a joie de vivre that made everyone around him want to sing for joy, a similarly eccentric loving family with hearts as big as Texas, the imagination of a precocious child, and the hard driving intelligence of a man who wills himself to be the best. What the News Isn’t Saying About Vaccine-Autism Studies

A new study this week found no link between vaccines and autism. It instantly made headlines on TV news and popular media everywhere. Many billed it as the final word, “once again,” disproving the notion that vaccines could have anything to do with autism.

What you didn’t learn on the news was that the study was from a consulting firm that lists major vaccine makers among its clients: The Lewin Group.

That potential conflict of interest was not disclosed in the paper published in The New England Journal of Medicine; the study authors simply declare “The Lewin Group operates with editorial independence.” Continue reading →
