Movie Review: City Slickers (1991)

A little deeper than many of us recall ___ 7.5/10

City Slicker

Mitch Robbins: “Value this time in your life kids, because this is the time in your life when you still have your choices, and it goes by so quickly. When you’re a teenager you think you can do anything, and you do. Your twenties are a blur. Your thirties, you raise your family, you make a little money and you think to yourself, “What happened to my twenties?” Your forties, you grow a little pot belly you grow another chin. The music starts to get too loud and one of your old girlfriends from high school becomes a grandmother. Continue reading

Guest Column: Studies Show ‘Conspiracy Theorists’ are More Sane…

New studies show conspiracy theorists tend to be sane,
while government dupes are crazy, hostile
by Top Information Post

Conspiracists are SaneReferred to me by Jack Shimek in the solid and persistent Facebook Group, Merrimack Valley 9/11 Truth. Studies have been done, peer-reviewed. Not surprisingly to those of us in the Core Truth movement, men and women who question the official stories of major public crimes or attacks are generally more open-minded and rational than those who blindly obey whatever the government authority structure tells them. Duh! But a welcom addition to the arsenal, more science amassed on the side of the good guys. Continue reading

Book Reviews: The Farrah Chronicles (2011)

Ninety minutes in the life of a very shaky girl
by Christine Mahoney

The Farrah ChroniclesFor those who feel the recently emerging author-directed alternative publishing technology tends to produce mundane work, The Farrah Chronicles will challenge your presumptions. This small story of a young woman’s journey through stylish neighborhoods of broken dreams and borderline sanity is a sparkling diamond of imagination. Written in first person via flashback, we’re first introduced to Farrah (29) as she’s being retrieved by her parents—and into their court-directed care—from an ‘institution.’ She finds it a little more than ironic that the state is placing her safekeeping ‘in the questionable hands of the very people who endangered it. Indefinitely.’ The next nine months provide the context of her reminiscences, as Farrah chronicles through her ninety-minute psychotherapy sessions (with the highly credentialed and determined Genie) what has brought her to this stage. As Farrah puts it: Continue reading

Movie Review: Secretariat (2010)

Disney inspirational with top-tier actors __ 8/10
Reviewed by Brian Wright

SecretariatPenny Chenery: More than three thousand years ago a man named Job complained to God about all his troubles and the Bible tells us that God answered: “Do you give the horse its strength or clothe its neck with a flowing mane? Do you make him leap like a locust, striking terror with his proud snorting? He paused fiercely, rejoicing in his strength and charges into the fray. He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing, He does not shy away from the sword. The quiver rattles against his side, along with the flashing spear and lance. In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground. He cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.” Continue reading

Guest Column: Free Don Siegelman… Still

Mr. Obama: Please restore justice, pardon my dad!
by Dana Siegelman

Free DonThis column is a direct copy of Dana’s heartfelt appeal for her father—former governor of Alabama Don Siegelman—who is doing hard time for a (non) ‘crime’ that was maliciously and wrongfully prosecuted basically by evil ‘friends of Karl Rove.’ [One of the tragic ironies of our demented era that the vicious little mass-murdering turd blossom Rove remains at large, while a good man languishes behind bars.] Continue reading

Brian’s Column: Immigration Nation

Whither (or wither) goeth us?

PaineThis column was originally written in April of 2007. I was trying for a sort of Mike Royko—great humorist and syndicated columnist for the Chicago newspapers—approach. Obviously I have some work to do, but I feel the immigration issue is one that the Men of the Power Sickness are using to divide us, similar to race. Today we are dealing with the distraction of the Zimmerman-Martin brouhaha while the MOPS keeps on taking away our freedom and humanity every day in every way. Immigration will be used and is being used in the same way, “You and him go ahead and duke it out, while I hold all the money.”  Continue reading

Movie Review: Fair Game (2010)

Docudrama sticks harsh truth to power __ 9/10

Fair Game

Joe Wilson: The responsibility of a country is not in the hands of a privileged few. We are strong, and we are free from tyranny as long as each one of us remembers his or her duty as a citizen. Whether it’s to report a pothole at the top of your street or lies in a State of the Union address, speak out! Ask those questions. Demand that truth. Democracy is not a free ride. I’m here to tell you. But, this is where we live. And if we do our job, this is where our children will live. God bless America.
